Situated on a hill overlooking Dundonald village, Royal Dundonald Castle is a dramatic setting providing a truly unique, intimate venue with beautiful surrounding views.
The ceremony is held in the magnificent interior of the castle. With its barrel-vaulted ceiling, considered one of the best examples of its type in the country, the rugged interior lends itself as a backdrop to individual and personalised styles of ceremony. With a beautiful interior ground floor that is very spacious with great acoustical qualities, Dundonald Castle is the perfect venue in which to celebrate your Special day.
The castle commands breath-taking views of central Ayrshire, the mountains of the Southern Highlands and enchanting views of the Firth of Clyde in from Arran to the Isle of Jura.
The site on which the castle stands has been occupied since 2000 BC and has seen 3 medieval castles built there, with remnants of the earlier 13th century castle still visible. Now the remains of the impressive fortified tower house built by King Robert II stands proud on top of the hill. Grandson of Robert the Bruce and the founder of the Stewart dynasty; rulers of Scotland and later Britain for 350 years, Dundonald Castle is sure to impress both with its historical importance and the castles own individual beauty.
The Castle is maintained by Historic Scotland, and the charity Friends Of Dundonald Castle SCIO.
The castle interior is a fully roofed dry space with partially glazed windows. We can allow two cars to go to the castle doorway (one typically for the bride and another to ferry any guests). All furniture that is displayed in the castle is at your disposal including the table, the throne chair, candelabras and all candle holders.
For your arrival at the castle there will be a red carpet entrance as well as an aisle.
A vast selection of battery operated candles and lights, to decorate the room is also available. Sixty chairs with chair covers and your choice of sash are included within the hire price.
Dogs and trained birds of prey are allowed whilst other animals will be considered on an individual basis.
Two dedicated members of staff will be on hand to assist you throughout the process of your booking, and your ceremony. Our staff offer a friendly service and are available to advise on layouts and setting up the castle. On the day we will provide a dedicated member of staff to help with organisation, setting up, greeting and tidying up.
